Diabetes is becoming a serious problem in China . Professor Wang has worked in diabetes research for many years. The largest national diabetes specialty hospital- Beijing Chaoyang Diabetes Hospital opened on July 18, 2004 in Beijing . On the same day, the Diabetes Foundation of China was established.
Professor Wu Jieping, a well-known professor and former Vice-chairman of The National Peoples Congress Standing Committee addressed in the opening ceremony. He said that diabetes now, like cancer and cardiovascular disease, is becoming one of the most threatening diseases in China . It is time that people make comprehensive effort to tackle the problem.
Professor S.R. Bloom, Chairman of the Society for Endocrinology of the United Kingdom , Vice-chairman of the Royal Society of Medicine ( United Kingdom ) made a special trip to Beijing to participate in the opening ceremony for the hospital. He said that the establishment of the hospital is the result of the cooperation between the Royal Society of Medicine, UK and the Committee of Chinese Medical Society. It will be a great help for the diabetes clinics and research in China .
Beijing Chaoyang Diabetes Hospital was built according to the standard of a third-grade specialty hospital, the highest standard hospital in China . The hospital adopts the criteria of diagnosis and treatment used by the Royal College of Physicians United Kingdom. Dr. S.R. Bloom, Chairman of the Society for Endocrinology of United Kingdom, fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine ( United Kingdom ), Chairman of Department of Endocrine, Imperial College , University of London and a reputed professor in the world, is the honorary president of the hospital and the Chairman of Scholarship Committee. Professor Wang Zhili, fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine ( United Kingdom ), Chairman of the Committee of Chinese Medical Society of UK, senior research scientist of Department of Metabolism, visiting professor of Department of Endocrine, Imperial College , University of London , serves as the president of the hospital. The hospital is nearly ten thousand square meters in the first stage of its construction. 150 beds are put into use in the first period. |
